Eldred Bristol a.k.a Dred. Number 96g.
Springfield, IL AMA GNC Singles Short Track Sept. 5th 2009
We will just start with... It was a long weekend. Not that it went badly. We just had to wait on mother nature a bit. Finally despite the
efforts of the IMDA the show was called off just short of midnight. The mile next day was delayed and finished with no daylight left to spare, but was really of no consequence to me since I am not running a twin. Monday dawned bright and sunny, however the pits and track were still a long way off from being ready. But, eventually we made it in and set up shop. Qualifying was going well. A wholesale change to the rear shock had given me a new bike and I liked it! After the first round we were 23rd and not far off on the times to be even better. The track conditions play a part though and when it was said and done I lost 10 spots in the final round. Regardless my times were good and even though I was on the second row for my heat I was inside which is good at short tracks. The first start was great. I can't say for sure, but I think I was in about 5th coming out of turn 2 only to see the red flags because of some people who didn't make it through the first corner. The second start was not quite as good, but again red flags out of 2 for the same reason. The AMA then decided to do some track prep and we waited. The third start wasn't quite as nice to me as the second so now I had gone from being a position close to the main to about seven places out! Not good. The semi start was red flagged too and again I wish I could have had the first one. I was several positions out and in an effort to put a ... "creative" line together to hopefully get a run on the two guys battling in front of me I allowed someone who was closer than I thought to get a run on me! He caught my bar and I just didn't hang on to it. Down I went coming off of turn 4. It took a moment to collect myself but aside from a twisted bike and another ruined helmet I was o.k. That wrapped up the singles races for the year so now I will look forward to 2010 and hopefully moving forward. Special thanks to Scooter for turning the wrenches and to Chris and Pam Carr for their concern after I ended up on my head. And also to everyone else who helped me put the new bike out there this year including Leo Vince exhausts, Motion Pro, Victory Circle Graphix, and Renthal.
